Ingredients

  • 1 kg floury potatoes, peeled and chopped
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 600 g minced lamb
  • 3 medium onions, finely diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp chilli powder
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 tsp dried rosemary
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 125 ml semi-skimmed milk
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 pinch nutmeg
  • None None fresh rosemary and thyme for garnish

Method

  • Preheat oven to 400°F. Cook the potatoes in boiling salted water for about 20 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, heat oil in a pan and cook the ground lamb for about 5 minutes until browned then add the onion and garlic and cook for a few more minutes. Add the chili powder, thyme, rosemary, oregano, and cumin and season to taste with salt and pepper.
  • Drain the potatoes and mash, with the milk and butter, until smooth. Stir in the nutmeg and season to taste with salt and pepper. Transfer the meat to a roasting pan, top with the mashed potato and bake for about 20 minutes, until golden brown. Serve with a garnish of rosemary and thyme.
