Ingredients
- 2 cups flour
- 1/3 tablespoons sugar
- 4 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/3 cup shortening, lard or butter
- or margarine
- 1/2 cup currants
- 1 egg
- 3/4 cups milk
Method
- Mix dry ingredients. Add wet ingredients and stir lightly with fork.
- Turn dough onto lightly floured surface and knead gently.
- Divide dough into two parts "roll each into a 6 in circle"
- Place on lightly greased baking sheet.
- Brush with milk and sprinkle with sugar.
- Score in quarters.
- Bake in heated over 450 degrees for 15 minutes
- I omit currants and sugar and add grated cheese and chives and sometimes it might need a little more milk if you do.
