Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/3 tablespoons sugar
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup shortening, lard or butter
  • or margarine
  • 1/2 cup currants
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 cups milk

Method

  • Mix dry ingredients. Add wet ingredients and stir lightly with fork.
  • Turn dough onto lightly floured surface and knead gently.
  • Divide dough into two parts "roll each into a 6 in circle"
  • Place on lightly greased baking sheet.
  • Brush with milk and sprinkle with sugar.
  • Score in quarters.
  • Bake in heated over 450 degrees for 15 minutes
  • I omit currants and sugar and add grated cheese and chives and sometimes it might need a little more milk if you do.
