Ingredients

  • 6 medium potatoes
  • 3 Tbsp. butter or oleo
  • 3 Tbsp. flour
  • salt and pepper
  • 2 1/2 c. milk
  • 1/4 c. chopped onion
  • 1 Tbsp. butter or oleo
  • 1 can Tender Chunk ham

Method

  • Preheat oven to 350°.
  • Peel potatoes and cut into thin slices. Melt 3 tablespoons butter in pan over low heat.
  • Blend flour and salt and pepper.
  • Cook over low heat, stirring until smooth and bubbly.
  • Remove from heat; stir in milk.
  • Heat to boiling, stirring constantly.
  • Boil and stir 1 minute.
  • In greased 2-quart casserole, layer in following order:
  • Potatoes, onions, sauce and ham (if desired) and repeat.
  • Dot with 1 tablespoon butter.
  • Cover; bake 30 minutes.
  • Uncover; bake 30 to 45 minutes longer or until potatoes are tender.
  • Let stand 5 to 10 minutes before serving.
