Ingredients
- 6 medium potatoes
- 3 Tbsp. butter or oleo
- 3 Tbsp. flour
- salt and pepper
- 2 1/2 c. milk
- 1/4 c. chopped onion
- 1 Tbsp. butter or oleo
- 1 can Tender Chunk ham
Method
- Preheat oven to 350°.
- Peel potatoes and cut into thin slices. Melt 3 tablespoons butter in pan over low heat.
- Blend flour and salt and pepper.
- Cook over low heat, stirring until smooth and bubbly.
- Remove from heat; stir in milk.
- Heat to boiling, stirring constantly.
- Boil and stir 1 minute.
- In greased 2-quart casserole, layer in following order:
- Potatoes, onions, sauce and ham (if desired) and repeat.
- Dot with 1 tablespoon butter.
- Cover; bake 30 minutes.
- Uncover; bake 30 to 45 minutes longer or until potatoes are tender.
- Let stand 5 to 10 minutes before serving.
