Ingredients

  • 3/4 c. chopped onion
  • 1/4 c. margarine
  • 1/3 c. flour
  • 1 c. water
  • 1 Tbsp. instant chicken bouillon
  • 1 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp. pepper
  • 1 (10 oz.) frozen chopped broccoli
  • 1 c. milk
  • 1 c. half and half
  • 8 oz. American cheese, cubed

Method

  • Saute onion in margarine in saucepan for 5 minutes.
  • Stir in flour.
  • Add water, bouillon, garlic powder and pepper.
  • Bring to a boil; reduce heat.
  • Add broccoli and milk.
  • Simmer for 10 minutes or until broccoli is tender.
  • Stir in half and half and cheese. Simmer until cheese is melted, stirring constantly.
  • Serve hot. Yield:
  • 8 servings.
  • Can also use no-fat milk and cheese.
