Ingredients
- 4 large potatoes, sliced 1/4-inch thick
- 1/4 c. water
- 3 Tbsp. butter or margarine
- 1 3/4 c. milk
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. buttered bread crumbs
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 3 Tbsp. all-purpose flour
- 2 c. shredded Cheddar cheese
- 1 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
Method
- Place potatoes into heavy saucepan with water and salt.
- Cover tightly and bring to a boil.
- Cook for 15 minutes.
- Meanwhile, melt butter in heavy saucepan.
- Stir in flour.
- Gradually add milk.
- Bring to a boil, stirring constantly.
- Cook until thickened.
- Remove from heat.
- Stir in cheese, salt and garlic. Fold sauce into potatoes.
- Turn into 1 1/2-quart buttered baking dish.
- Top with buttered crumbs.
- Bake at 375° for 45 minutes or until mixture is bubbly and top is slightly brown.
