Ingredients

  • 8 c. shredded cabbage
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 3 Tbsp. flour
  • 1/8 tsp. pepper
  • 3/4 c. grated cheese
  • bread crumbs, potato chips or cracker crumbs
  • 1/4 c. water
  • 3 Tbsp. butter or oleo
  • 1 1/2 c. milk
  • paprika

Method

  • Cook cabbage in a 2 1/2-quart casserole.
  • Drain.
  • Add melted butter.
  • Blend in flour, salt and pepper.
  • Add milk and cook in oven until thickened (about 5 minutes).
  • Stir every minute.
  • In a 1 1/2-quart casserole, alternate layers of cabbage, white sauce and grated cheese.
  • Top with bread crumbs and paprika and bake at 350° for 10 minutes.
  • Turn dish 1/2 through baking time.
  • Serves 8.
