Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 c. brown sugar
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. margarine
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/8 tsp. cloves
  • 1/2 c. water
  • 3/4 c. quick oats
  • 1/2 c. raisins
  • 1/2 c. chopped nuts
  • 1 1/2 c. boiling water

Method

  • Beat 1/4 cup brown sugar, 1/2 cup sugar and the softened margarine at medium speed until blended.
  • Stir together flour and next 5 ingredients.
  • Add to sugar mixture alternately with 1/2 cup water, beginning and ending with flour mixture, beating at low speed until blended.
  • Stir in oats, raisins and nuts.
  • Spoon into a lightly greased 8-inch square pan.
  • Sprinkle with remaining 1 cup brown sugar.
  • Pour 1 1/2 cups boiling water over top.
  • Do not stir.
  • Bake at 350° for 40 to 45 minutes.
  • Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
  • Recipe may be doubled.
  • Bake in a 9 x 13 pan for 50 minutes.
