Ingredients

  • 1 c. sugar
  • 2 c. water
  • 1 orange, thinly sliced
  • 1 lime, thinly sliced
  • 1/5 bottle red or white wine
  • 1 (8 oz.) bottle carbonated water

Method

  • Combine sugar and water in saucepan.
  • Heat, stirring, until sugar is dissolved.
  • Bring to boil.
  • Add sliced fruit to hot syrup and marinate at least 4 hours before using.
  • When ready to serve, put about 12 ice cubes in a tall glass pitcher; add marinated fruit (reserving 2 slices of fruit for each glass) and 1/2 cup of the syrup, then add wine and carbonated water.
  • Place 2 slices fruit in each glass and fill glasses from pitcher.
  • Makes 8 servings.
