Ingredients
- 1 pkg. yeast
- 1/4 c. warm water
- 1/4 c. lard
- 2 tsp. caraway seed
- 2 tsp. anise seed
- 1/4 c. molasses
- 1/4 c. brown sugar
- 1 Tbsp. salt
- 1 1/2 c. hot water
- 2 1/2 c. sifted rye flour
- 3 1/2 c. white flour
Method
- Combine yeast and warm water; set aside.
- Combine next 6 ingredients and then add hot water; cool to lukewarm.
- Mix in rye flour.
- Add yeast mixture.
- Add white flour.
- Knead dough 10 minutes.
- Let rise until double.
- Punch and let rise again.
- Form into 2 loaves and place in greased loaf pans.
- Let rise.
- Bake in a 375° oven for 25 to 35 minutes.
