Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lb. round steak
  • 1/4 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 Tbsp. shortening
  • 1 (16 oz.) can sliced or diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 c. finely chopped celery
  • 1/2 c. finely chopped carrots
  • 1/2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce

Method

  • Cut the steak into 6 portions.
  • Combine the flour and salt and sprinkle 2 tablespoons of mixture over the steak.
  • Pound the mixture into both sides of the steak.
  • In a skillet, heat the shortening and brown the meat.
  • Transfer meat to 13 x 9-inch baking dish.
  • Blend remaining flour mixture to pan drippings. Stir in remaining ingredients constantly until thick and bubbly. Pour the mixture over meat and cover dish.
  • Bake at 350° for 1 hour and 20 minutes or until the meat is tender.
