Ingredients

  • round steak, quartered
  • oil
  • 1/2 c. flour (or more if needed)
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • chopped carrots
  • chopped onions
  • chopped celery
  • 1 can stewed tomatoes
  • shredded cheese

Method

  • Pound with meat pounder flour, salt and pepper into steak. Brown (in oil) on both sides.
  • Remove from pan and place in casserole.
  • Stir in same pan a little more flour.
  • Add tomatoes, celery, onion and carrots.
  • Bring to a boil.
  • Pour over steak, cover and bake for 2 hours in a moderately hot oven. Remove from oven, put cheese on top and return to oven, uncovered, until cheese melts.
