Ingredients

  • 1 large head cabbage
  • 1 large onion
  • 1 green pepper (optional)
  • 2 c. plus 2 tsp. sugar
  • 1 c. vinegar
  • 3/4 c. salad oil
  • 1 Tbsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. celery seed
  • 1 tsp. dry mustard

Method

  • Shred cabbage finely.
  • Slice onion thin.
  • Put layer of cabbage in large bowl (I use Tupperware for this).
  • Then layer of onion, etc., until bowl is filled.
  • Pour 2 cups of sugar over this.
  • Mix together the other ingredients with 2 teaspoons sugar.
  • Bring to a boil.
  • Pour over cabbage mixture; mix well.
  • Place in container with tight lid; cover.
  • Store in refrigerator.
  • Let stand 4 hours. Stir well and serve.
  • Keeps as long as it lasts.
