Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 c. milk
  • 6 oz. semi-sweet chocolate (either chips or squares)
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 1/8 tsp. salt
  • 2 c. strong, hot coffee
  • 1 c. half and half
  • 1 tsp. real vanilla extract

Method

  • Heat milk and chocolate in a heavy saucepan until chocolate melts.
  • Whisk until smooth, or beat with an electric mixer until flecks of chocolate are incorporated.
  • Stir in sugar and salt; bring mixture to a boil.
  • Reduce the heat; simmer for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Stir in coffee and half and half, then briefly bring to a simmer.
  • Add vanilla and serve immediately. Serves 5.
