Ingredients
- 1/2 c. Crisco
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 1/2 c. sugar
- 2 oz. red food coloring
- 2 Tbsp. cocoa
- 1 tsp. salt
- 2 c. plain flour
- 1 c. buttermilk
- 1 Tbsp. white vinegar
- 1 tsp. baking soda
Method
- Grease and flour desired pan.
- Cream Crisco and sugar.
- Add eggs, food coloring and vanilla.
- Beat well.
- Add sifted dry ingredients, alternating with buttermilk.
- Mix well after each addition.
- Beat until smooth.
- Fold in, do not beat, vinegar and baking soda.
- Bake at 350° for 35 to 40 minutes, until toothpick in center come out clean.
- Makes a double layer 9-inch cake or 13 x 9 x 2-inch cake.
