Ingredients

  • 2 oz. red food coloring
  • 3 Tbsp. Nestle instant cocoa
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 2 1/4 c. sifted cake flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 Tbsp. vinegar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 rounded tsp. soda

Method

  • Blend food coloring and cocoa together.
  • Set aside.
  • Cream butter and sugar.
  • Add eggs and beat well.
  • Stir in cocoa mixture. Add flour, salt and buttermilk.
  • Beat well.
  • Fold in vanilla.
  • At the same time, add vinegar and soda.
  • Fold in.
  • Will tend to foam. Pour into two 9-inch pans or three 8-inch pans. Be sure to line pans with waxed paper.
  • Bake at 350° for 30 minutes.
