Ingredients
- 2 oz. red food coloring
- 3 Tbsp. Nestle instant cocoa
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 c. buttermilk
- 2 1/4 c. sifted cake flour
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 Tbsp. vinegar
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 rounded tsp. soda
Method
- Blend food coloring and cocoa together.
- Set aside.
- Cream butter and sugar.
- Add eggs and beat well.
- Stir in cocoa mixture. Add flour, salt and buttermilk.
- Beat well.
- Fold in vanilla.
- At the same time, add vinegar and soda.
- Fold in.
- Will tend to foam. Pour into two 9-inch pans or three 8-inch pans. Be sure to line pans with waxed paper.
- Bake at 350° for 30 minutes.
