Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 c. raisins
  • 1 1/4 c. water
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1 c. shortening or oleo
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 well beaten eggs
  • 4 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. baking powder

Method

  • Boil the raisins and water for 5 minutes. Cool and stir in the baking soda. Cream the sugar, shortening or oleo, vanilla and eggs.
  • Add the cooled raisin mixture, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt and baking powder.
  • Nuts can be added. Drop by spoonfuls onto greased pan. Bake at 375° for 10 to 12 minutes.
  • Should be a soft cookie.
