Ingredients

  • 1 lb. ground chuck
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp. oregano leaves
  • 1/2 tsp. basil leaves
  • 1/4 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1/8 tsp. ground black pepper
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 (28 oz.) can tomatoes
  • 16 oz. tomato sauce
  • 1/2 c. water

Method

  • Brown ground chuck in large skillet over moderate heat until it loses its pink color, breaking up with large spoon as it cooks. Stir in rest of ingredients.
  • Bring to a boil, stirring.
  • Reduce heat and simmer, covered, for 15 minutes.
  • Makes 6 cups sauce. Serve over cooked spaghetti.
