Ingredients
- 1 c. warm water
- 1 Tbsp. honey
- 2 pkg. yeast
- 3 c. hot water
- 1/3 c. honey
- 4 Tbsp. oil
- 1 Tbsp. salt
- 4 c. whole wheat flour
- approximately 5 c. whole wheat flour, warmed in 250~ oven
Method
- Combine the first 3 ingredients in a small bowl and let stand for about 10 minutes.
- In a large separate bowl, mix the hot water, honey, oil, salt and 4 cups whole wheat flour in order given.
- Cool to lukewarm and add yeast mixture.
- Beat thoroughly in electric mixer or vigorously by hand.
- Let this rise in a warm place 15 minutes.
- Add enough of the 5 cups of warmed flour to make soft dough which can be handled.
- Knead 5 minutes.
- Throw the mass of dough with force onto the bread board several times.
- Put loaves into well-greased pans and allow to sit for 12 minutes.
- Bake at 250° for 15 minutes.
- Increase heat to 350° and finish baking, about 45 minutes.
- Yields 3 loaves.
