Ingredients

  • 1 c. molasses
  • 3/4 c. shortening
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1 1/2 c. hot mashed potatoes
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. cloves
  • 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/2 c. chopped raisins or prunes

Method

  • Combine molasses and shortening; add hot potatoes.
  • Sift all dry ingredients together and add to molasses mixture.
  • Then add chopped, cooked raisins or prunes and stir.
  • Drop by teaspoonfuls onto a greased baking sheet and bake for about 12 minutes at 325°.
