Ingredients

  • 3 qt. popped corn
  • 1 small jar Brer Rabbit molasses
  • 1/4 c. water
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 2 tsp. cider vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 5 Tbsp. vegetable oil or shortening

Method

  • Discard all hard corn kernels.
  • Use a large pan (such as turkey roasting pan) to mix in.
  • Combine syrup, sugar, water, vinegar and salt; cook slowly, stirring constantly to 270° or to hard ball stage (test by dropping a spoonful in cold water).
  • Remove from heat; add vanilla and oil, stirring only enough to mix.
  • Pour over popped corn, stirring constantly until all corn is coated.
  • Slip Baggies on both hands; grease lightly.
  • Work quickly; shape lightly into balls.
  • Put popcorn balls on wax paper to cool, then wrap each in its own Baggie.
