Ingredients
- 3 qt. popped corn
- 1 small jar Brer Rabbit molasses
- 1/4 c. water
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 2 tsp. cider vinegar
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2 tsp. vanilla
- 5 Tbsp. vegetable oil or shortening
Method
- Discard all hard corn kernels.
- Use a large pan (such as turkey roasting pan) to mix in.
- Combine syrup, sugar, water, vinegar and salt; cook slowly, stirring constantly to 270° or to hard ball stage (test by dropping a spoonful in cold water).
- Remove from heat; add vanilla and oil, stirring only enough to mix.
- Pour over popped corn, stirring constantly until all corn is coated.
- Slip Baggies on both hands; grease lightly.
- Work quickly; shape lightly into balls.
- Put popcorn balls on wax paper to cool, then wrap each in its own Baggie.
