Ingredients

  • 4 c. sliced fresh or canned peaches
  • 1/4 c. margarine, softened
  • 1 3/4 c. sugar
  • 1 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. milk
  • 1 Tbsp. cornstarch
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 c. boiling water

Method

  • Place peach slices in an 8-inch square pan.
  • Cream margarine and 3/4 cup sugar.
  • Combine flour, baking powder and salt.
  • Add to creamed mixture alternately with milk.
  • Spoon mixture over fruit. Sift together remaining 1 cup sugar, nutmeg and cornstarch; sprinkle over batter.
  • Pour water over top.
  • Bake at 350° for 60 minutes.
  • Serve with whipped topping or ice cream.
