Ingredients

  • 2 c. basmati rice
  • 1 1/2 c. peas
  • 3 whole cloves
  • 4 whole black peppers
  • 2 cardamom
  • 3 Tbsp. oil
  • salt to taste

Method

  • Wash rice and let it soak for 15 minutes.
  • Saute onions until golden brown.
  • Add cloves, cardamom, black pepper and peas.
  • Drain the rice and add it to the pot of onions and spices.
  • Measure 3 1/2 cups of water and add to the rice mixture; add the salt.
  • Cook over medium heat until water has evaporated.
  • Cover with lid and turn to lowest temperature possible and let the rice sit for 5 minutes, then turn the heat off.
