Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp. shortening
  • 1 tsp. salt or less
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 1 pkg. yeast
  • 1 1/2 c. water
  • 3 1/2 c. flour or more
  • 1 egg, well beaten

Method

  • Heat water enough to melt shortening. Add shortening. Cool to warm. Add salt, sugar, egg and yeast.
  • Mix. Add flour and mix. Stir until it draws away from the bowl. Cover to rise.
  • Punch down and knead lightly; let rise again. Turn out on board and knead until elastic.
  • Roll out and cut or pinch off in rolls.
  • I also make cinnamon rolls with this dough. My favorite recipe, also my grandkids.
