Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 c. plain flour
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1 c. butter
  • 2 c. nuts, chopped
  • 1/2 c. buttermilk
  • 1/2 tsp. soda
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 (3 1/2 oz.) can flaked coconut
  • 1 pkg. candy orange slices
  • 1 (8 oz.) pkg. pitted dates

Method

  • Combine orange slices, dates, nuts and coconut with 1/2 cup of flour.
  • Cream butter and sugar well and then add eggs one at a time.
  • Combine 1/2 teaspoon soda with buttermilk and add alternately with the flour.
  • Add the candy and nut mixture and pour into tube pan that has been greased and floured.
  • Bake at 300° for 1 hour and 35 to 45 minutes.
  • Remove from oven.
  • Pour the icing over it while hot.
