Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 4 cups flour, all-purpose
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 113 cups nuts coarsely chopped
  • 1 cup evaporated milk
  • 2 tablespoons orange zest grated
  • 3/4 cup orange juice
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable shortening melted
  • 3/4 cup molasses unsulphured

Method

  • Sif together flour, sugar, soda, baking powder, and salt.
  • Add nuts.
  • Combine evaporated milk, orange rind, orange juice, shortening, and molasses.
  • Add to flour mixture all at once.
  • Stir just to blend.
  • Turn into a greased and wax-paper lined 9 x 5 x 3 loaf pan.
  • Bake at 325F (160C) for one hour and 15 minutes.
  • Makes 1 loaf.
