Ingredients

  • 1 c. seedless raisins
  • 1 c. water
  • 3/4 c. soft shortening
  • 1 1/2 c. sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 1/2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. cloves
  • 2 c. rolled oats
  • 1/2 c. chopped nuts

Method

  • Simmer raisins and water in saucepan over low heat until raisins are plump, 20 to 30 minutes.
  • Drain water into measuring cup.
  • Add water to make 1/2 cup.
  • Heat oven to 400°.
  • Cream shortening, sugar, eggs and vanilla.
  • Stir in raisin liquid. Blend flour, baking powder, soda, salt and spices.
  • Stir in.
  • Add rolled oats, nuts and raisins.
  • Drop rounded teaspoonfuls 2-inches apart onto ungreased baking sheet.
  • Bake 8 to 10 minutes.
