Ingredients

  • 2 c. all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1/2 c. margarine or shortening, softened
  • 3/4 c. buttermilk

Method

  • Mix dry ingredients in bowl.
  • Cut in butter or shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • With fork, stir in buttermilk to make soft dough.
  • Turn into lightly floured board and knead about 10 times to form a soft ball.
  • Roll out to a 6 x 6-inch square.
  • Place on ungreased baking sheet.
  • With knife, cut into 12 portions.
  • Do not separate; leave in a square.
  • Bake at 400° for about 15 minutes or until golden brown.
