Ingredients

  • 3/4 c. shortening
  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 1/2 c. granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 c. water
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. soda
  • 1 c. raisins
  • 1 c. chopped nuts
  • 3 c. quick cooking oats

Method

  • Heat oven to 350°.
  • Mix thoroughly the shortening, sugars, egg, water and vanilla.
  • Stir in remaining ingredients.
  • Drop dough by rounded teaspoonfuls 1-inch apart onto greased cookie sheet.
  • Bake 12 to 15 minutes or until almost no imprint remains when touched.
  • Cool on racks.
  • Makes about 5 dozen.
