Ingredients
- 2 c. boiling water
- 1 c. oats
- 2 pkg. yeast
- 1/3 c. warm water
- 6 c. flour
- 2 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. honey or molasses
- 2 Tbsp. margarine or butter
Method
- Combine boiling water and oats.
- Let stand 30 minutes.
- Mix yeast and warm water and let stand 5 minutes.
- Mix oats, yeast, salt, honey, butter and about 4 cups of the flour in a very large bowl.
- Knead in remaining 2 cups flour.
- (It will be hard work.) Let rise until doubled, 2 to 3 hours.
- Punch down dough.
- Divide in half and stretch each portion to cover bottoms of 2 greased loaf pans.
- Let double again, 1 to 2 hours.
- Bake at 325° for about 50 minutes.
- (Is faster to use RapidRise yeast.)
