Ingredients

  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/4 c. sour milk
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 3 c. wheat flour (sift before measuring)
  • 4 tsp. baking powder
  • 3/4 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. coarsely chopped walnuts

Method

  • Preheat oven to 325°.
  • Grease a loaf bread pan.
  • Sift flour, then measure 3 cups.
  • Add the other dry ingredients to the flour. Beat the egg in a mixing bowl.
  • Add the sour milk and sugar.
  • Mix. Add the dry ingredients into the egg mixture.
  • Add the nuts. Beat until well mixed.
  • Pour into a greased bread pan.
  • Bake at 325° for 1 hour or until done.
  • Variation:
  • Add dates, raisins or bananas.
