Ingredients
- 12 c. flour
- 2 c. milk
- 2/3 c. sugar
- 3 Tbsp. shortening
- 2 2/3 c. water
- 3 tsp. salt
- 2 pkg. dry yeast
Method
- Scald together milk, sugar and shortening.
- Remove from heat. Add 2 cups water and salt.
- Let cool slightly.
- Mix 1 package yeast with 2/3 cup warm milk mixture and yeast mixture.
- Stir together and add remaining flour, 2 cups at a time.
- Knead dough to a smooth consistency.
- Let rise to double size.
- Punch down and rise again. Work into rolls or loaves and place in greased pan.
- Bake 1/2 hour at 400° and 1/2 hour at 350°.
- Makes one 9 x 13-inch pan plus 1 loaf.
