Ingredients

  • 1 1/8 c. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1/2 c. white sugar
  • 1/4 c. brown sugar
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/4 tsp. hot water
  • chocolate chips
  • 1 c. rolled oats
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla

Method

  • Cream shortening, adding sugars gradually until light and fluffy.
  • Add eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition (for more than one recipe).
  • Add hot water, then sifted dry ingredients.
  • Add chocolate chips, oats and vanilla and blend thoroughly.
  • Drop by teaspoons on greased cookie sheet.
  • Bake at 375° for 6 to 8 minutes.
  • Makes 3 1/2 dozen.
