Ingredients

  • 1 cup Butter
  • 1-1/2 cup Sugar
  • 1 whole Egg
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla
  • 2-1/2 cups Flour
  • 1-1/2 teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoons Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoons Almond Extract
  • 6 drops Red Liquid Food Coloring
  • 1/2 cups Chopped Walnuts
  • 1 ounce, weight Unsweetened Chocolate, Melted

Method

  • Line a 9"x5" loaf pan with waxed paper; set aside. In a mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar. Beat in egg and vanilla. Combine flour, baking powder and salt; gradually add to the creamed mixture. Divide dough into 3 equal parts. Add almond extract and food coloring to one part; spread evenly in the pan. Add nuts to one part, then spread evenly over the first layer. Add chocolate to the remaining part, then spread over that. Cover with waxed paper and refrigerate overnight. Unwrap loaf; cut in half lengthwise. Cut each portion into 1/8" slices. Place on ungreased baking sheets. Bake at 350F for 10 minutes or until edges are firm. Cool on a wire rack.
  • I have found it works best to shape each portion into a flat slab 9"x5" in size before you put it into the loaf pan. It works better that way!
