- 1 chopped onion (large)
- c. celery, finely diced
- 1 c. green pepper, finely diced
- 1 Tbsp. vegetable oil
- 1 large clove garlic, diced
- 1 lb. uncooked ground turkey or ground beef
- 2 Tbsp. chili powder
- 1/2 tsp. ground cumin
- 1/2 tsp. oregano
- 1/2 tsp. basil, crumbled
- 1/4 tsp. thyme, crumbled
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. pepper
- 2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
- 1 (16 oz.) can tomato sauce
- 3/4 c. water
Method
- Serve on hamburger buns, lightly toasted if you like.
- Saute onion, celery and green pepper in oil in medium size heavy skillet until soft, about 5 minutes.
- Add garlic; cook 1 minute.
- Combine in ground turkey or beef.
- Saute until half done, about 2 minutes. Add chili powder, cumin, oregano, basil, thyme, salt and pepper. Cook just until meat is cooked through, about 3 minutes.
- Stir in Worcestershire sauce, tomatoes and 3/4 cup water.
- Bring to boil, lower heat and simmer, stirring constantly, about 30 minutes. Spoon about 1/2 cup of filling until each buns is stuffed full. Serve hot.
- Drain off excess grease of meat mixture.
