Ingredients

  • 2 lb. beef stew meat
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 4 large carrots, in chunks
  • 2 celery ribs, in chunks
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • pepper to taste
  • 1/2 lb. fresh mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 c. water
  • 1 c. dill pickle liquid
  • 1 c. chili sauce
  • 3/4 c. thinly sliced dill pickles

Method

  • Brown meat in butter in a Dutch oven.
  • Add vegetables and seasonings.
  • Mix liquids and add 1/2 of this to mixture.
  • Cover and simmer about 2 hours.
  • Add rest of liquid during cooking. Just before serving, add sliced pickles.
  • Serve over mashed potatoes or noodles.
  • (The pickles make this special.)
