Ingredients

  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1 c. shortening
  • 1 1/2 c. self-rising flour
  • 1/3 c. cocoa
  • 4 whole eggs
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 pkg. miniature marshmallows
  • 1 c. chopped nuts (pecans)

Method

  • Cream sugar and shortening.
  • Mix in eggs and vanilla.
  • Sift flour, cocoa and salt together; add to first mixture and mix well. Stir in pecans.
  • Pour into 9 x 13-inch pan and bake for about 45 minutes at 300°.
  • Remove from oven, turn oven off and spread marshmallows over top of cake; return to oven for 10 minutes or until marshmallows melt.
  • Cool, then ice.
