Ingredients
- 3 c. flour
- 4 tsp. baking powder
- 3/4 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1/4 to 1/3 c. sugar
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 c. sweet milk
Method
- Sift together flour, baking powder, salt and cream of tartar. Cut shortening into flour mixture with pastry blender.
- Stir in sugar.
- Mix together egg and milk; add to other ingredients and stir to form a sticky dough.
- Turn onto floured surface and knead 6 to 8 times.
- Roll or pat dough to 1/2-inch thick; cut out biscuits with floured cutter.
- Bake at 475° for 12 to 15 minutes on ungreased sheet.
- Makes about 15 biscuits.
