Ingredients

  • 1 lb. ground beef or ground pork
  • 1 1/2 c. sliced fresh mushrooms
  • 1/2 c. chopped onion
  • 1/2 c. chopped green pepper
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (16 oz.) can tomatoes, cut up
  • 1 (7 1/2 oz.) can tomatoes, cut up
  • 1 (6 oz.) can tomato paste
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp. dried oregano, crushed
  • 1 tsp. dried basil, crushed
  • 1/2 tsp. dried thyme, crushed
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 6 c. hot, cooked spaghetti

Method

  • In a 3-quart microwave-safe casserole, combine meat, mushrooms, onion, green pepper and garlic.
  • Cook on 100 percent power (High) for 6 to 8 minutes or until no pink remains, stirring twice.
  • Drain.
  • Stir in tomatoes, tomato paste, sugar, oregano, basil, thyme, salt, pepper and bay leaf.
  • Cook, covered, on High, for 10 to 12 minutes or until boiling.
  • Cook, uncovered, on 50 percent power (Medium) about 20 minutes or to desired consistency, stirring once.
  • Discard bay leaf.
  • Serve over hot cooked spaghetti.
  • Makes 6 servings.
