- 1 lb. ground beef or ground pork
- 1 1/2 c. sliced fresh mushrooms
- 1/2 c. chopped onion
- 1/2 c. chopped green pepper
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (16 oz.) can tomatoes, cut up
- 1 (7 1/2 oz.) can tomatoes, cut up
- 1 (6 oz.) can tomato paste
- 1 tsp. sugar
- 1 tsp. dried oregano, crushed
- 1 tsp. dried basil, crushed
- 1/2 tsp. dried thyme, crushed
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. pepper
- 1 bay leaf
- 6 c. hot, cooked spaghetti
Method
- In a 3-quart microwave-safe casserole, combine meat, mushrooms, onion, green pepper and garlic.
- Cook on 100 percent power (High) for 6 to 8 minutes or until no pink remains, stirring twice.
- Drain.
- Stir in tomatoes, tomato paste, sugar, oregano, basil, thyme, salt, pepper and bay leaf.
- Cook, covered, on High, for 10 to 12 minutes or until boiling.
- Cook, uncovered, on 50 percent power (Medium) about 20 minutes or to desired consistency, stirring once.
- Discard bay leaf.
- Serve over hot cooked spaghetti.
- Makes 6 servings.
