Ingredients
- 2 c. sifted flour
- 2 3/4 tsp. baking powder
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 2/3 c. sugar
- 1 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 3 eggs, separated
- 3/4 c. milk
- 1 1/2 c. ground black walnuts
Method
- Sift flour, baking powder and salt.
- Cream shortening with sugar and vanilla until fluffy.
- Add beaten egg yolks and beat thoroughly.
- Add sifted dry ingredients and milk alternately in small amounts to sugar-egg mixture, beating well after each addition.
- Add nuts.
- Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites.
- Pour into greased 9-inch cake pans.
- Bake in preheated 350° oven for 30 minutes.
- Makes two 9-inch layers.
