Ingredients

  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 2 sq. chocolate
  • 1/2 c. hot water
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 eggs

Method

  • Cream shortening and sugar.
  • Melt chocolate in water on stove and add
  • to
  • creamed
  • mixture.
  • Add
  • soda to buttermilk, then add flour
  • and milk alternately to mixture.
  • Add vanilla, then eggs and mix (eggs must be added last or the cake will be ruined). Bake in 8-inch square or 9-inch round layers or in 9 x 13-inch pan at 350°
  • for
  • 25 minutes. May bake as cupcakes too.
