Ingredients

  • 1 c. butter
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 3 1/4 c. flour
  • 3/4 tsp. salt
  • 3 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 c. homogenized milk
  • 1/2 c. evaporated milk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 8 egg whites

Method

  • Cream butter and sugar; sift flour, salt and baking powder 3 times.
  • Add small amounts of flour to creamed mixture alternately with milk, beating until smooth after each addition.
  • Add flavoring.
  • Beat egg whites until fluffy, but not dry, and fold in.
  • Grease three 9-inch layer cake pans lightly and line bottoms with waxed paper.
  • Bake in preheated oven (350°) for 25 to 30 minutes or until cake springs back when tested.
