Ingredients

  • 1 c. warm water
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 1 pkg. dry yeast
  • 2 eggs
  • 5 1/2 to 6 c. bread flour
  • 1 c. boiling water
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. shortening or 1 stick margarine
  • 1/3 c. sugar

Method

  • Mix warm water, 1 teaspoon sugar and yeast; set aside.
  • Add salt, 1/3 cup sugar and shortening to 1 cup boiling water.
  • Add 2 cups flour and beat well.
  • Add yeast mixture, beaten eggs and balance of the flour.
  • Beat until smooth.
  • Cover and keep in icebox until ready to use.
  • Shape in rolls or loaf pan.
  • Bake at 350° for 10 minutes, reduce heat and bake 10 minutes more for loaf pans.
  • Grease tops with margarine last 5 minutes.
  • Makes 36 rolls or 2 loaves.
