Ingredients

  • 2 c. cornmeal mix
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 c. minced onion
  • 2/3 c. cream-style corn
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • buttermilk

Method

  • In a medium bowl, add cornmeal mix, egg, onion, corn, salt and sugar.
  • Add buttermilk until mixture is thickened.
  • Let sit for 5 minutes and stir again.
  • Mixture should hold together when formed into balls or shaped into "hush puppies" with 2 teaspoons. Drop into hot grease.
  • Hush puppies will float.
  • Turn when browned on underside.
  • Drain on paper towels.
  • Serve hot.
