Ingredients

  • 3 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 2 heaping Tbsp. lard
  • 1/2 c. water and 1/2 c. milk, mixed with ice cubes

Method

  • Work lard into dry ingredients until consistency of coarse corn meal. Add liquid, very little at a time, until dough is very stiff. Add as little of the liquid as possible. The stiffer the dough, the better the biscuits. Roll dough until satiny smooth. Cut biscuits about 1/2-inch thick. Bake at 350° for about 45 minutes or until golden brown.
