- 1 pound ground pork*
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 2 celery ribs, diced
- 2 small carrots, diced
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon pepper
- 1 (8-ounce) package sliced fresh mushrooms
- 2 (15-ounce) cans tomato sauce
- 1 (14 1/2-ounce) can beef broth
- 1 (10 3/4-ounce) can tomato puree
- 1 (6-ounce) can Italian-style tomato paste
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh thyme
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh oregano
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh basil
- 1 (20-ounce) package refrigerated cheese-filled ravioli, cooked
- Garnish: chopped fresh basil
Method
- Cook first 8 ingredients in a large Dutch oven over medium heat, stirring until meat crumbles and is no longer pink; drain.
- Stir in mushrooms and next 6 ingredients; simmer 3 hours. Stir in 1 tablespoon basil just before serving; serve over ravioli. Garnish, if desired.
- * 1 pound ground beef may be substituted.
