Ingredients

  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1 stick margarine (1/2 c.)
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 5 egg yolks (save whites)
  • 1 tsp. soda, dissolved in 1 c. buttermilk
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 c. nuts
  • 1 can Angel Flake coconut
  • 5 egg whites

Method

  • Preheat oven to 350°.
  • Cream sugar, margarine, shortening, egg yolks and soda (dissolved in buttermilk).
  • Add flour, vanilla, nuts and coconut.
  • Mix thoroughly.
  • Fold in egg whites with wire beater gently.
  • Bake approximately 30 minutes at 350°.
  • Cool before adding icing.
