Ingredients
- 1/3 c. molasses
- 1/2 c. brown sugar
- 2 Tbsp. shortening
- 2 yeast cakes
- 6 c. white flour (approximately)
- 1/3 c. white Karo syrup
- 2 c. milk
- 2 c. rye flour
- 1/2 c. warm water
Method
- Scald and cool molasses, syrup, sugar, milk and shortening. Then add yeast, dissolved in warm water and rye flour.
- Add white flour to make a stiff dough.
- Place in greased bowl, cover with damp cloth.
- Let rise until double, about 3 hours.
