Ingredients
- 4 c. unbleached flour
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1 1/2 tsp. caraway seed (optional)
- 1 c. raisins
- 1 egg (at room temperature)
- 2 Tbsp. liquid shortening
- 1 1/2 c. (estimated) buttermilk (at room temperature)
Method
- Preheat oven to 375°.
- Put dry ingredients in mixing bowl and stir.
- Add raisins and stir.
- Add egg and shortening and stir. Gradually add buttermilk until you have a firm, but not stiff, dough (like a biscuit dough).
- Put on a lightly floured board and knead for about 2 minutes until dough becomes smooth.
