Ingredients

  • 1 c. white corn meal
  • 2 Tbsp. flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 3 Tbsp. grated onion
  • 1/4 tsp. baking soda
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 c. buttermilk
  • 1/4 c. sweet milk

Method

  • Beat eggs well.
  • Add all milk and beat well.
  • Add all the dry ingredients and onions.
  • Cook in deep fat at 350°.
  • They should be mealy on the inside and a golden crisp brown on the outside.
  • If the dough becomes too thick, add more milk.
  • Wonderful with fish and soups, especially with Brunswick Stew.
