Ingredients

  • 5 c. boiling water
  • 2 c. cornmeal
  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1/2 lb. ground pork
  • small can tomatoes
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • small clove garlic
  • 2 Tbsp. oil
  • 2 Tbsp. chili powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. pepper

Method

  • Make mush with water and cornmeal and line 9-inch square pan with 2-inch layer of mush.
  • Fry onion in oil until pale yellow; add meat and brown lightly.
  • Add tomatoes, garlic, chili powder, salt and pepper and simmer 10 minutes.
  • Pour into pan and top with remaining mush.
  • Bake for 2 hours at 325°.
